I would look around, there is usually a surgeons medal on eBay and I am sure it's cheaper. They are not too hard to find, at least a couple a year turn up. Search the DNW auction archive to see the prices of past ones. Good luck, Ryan.

Thank you for your replies, especially the information from the roll uploaded by Frank.

I assumed correctly that he was a civil surgeon attached to the military with the beneficial trappings of an officer. I did try and search through the archive for DNW auctions but their website does not work correctly at the moment.

The single award is not inexpensive, however, I will give it some consideration. Thank you again. This forum seems to be a mine of information and I'm glad I discovered it. Cheers, WilloW1899

Thanks for the note. I assume "BMF" is the British Medal Forum ?

I have purchased the surgeon QSA mentioned. Once it arrives from the UK, I'll be sure to post a picture. The person I am buying it from obtained it directly from the family (so the story goes.....) Cheers, WilloW

By coincidence, I have just acquired a no bar QSA to Surgeon Captain R Marr. Knysna Town Guard. I guess that he was the local doctor and decided to join up. I dont imagine that he had many onerous military duties.
Its a nice collecting byway, with plenty of research possibilities.
Regards
Mike
