A recent post iro DCM's by David got me searching through Forsyth's roll.

Of the 130 odd DCM's issued to Colonial SA units a startling number of 10 went to the Queenstown Volunteers.

Whilst in no way wishing to detract from the heroism of those engaged in actions with that outfit I feel obliged to ask if this is not an abnormally large number?

Did these chaps get involved in, as yet unwritten, deeds of valour?

Regards

Rory

From what I remember there's a photo of them in With the Flag to Pretoria and they relate to a specific incident.

Hi everybody
I bought the Sladdin pair early in 1984(Spink : Newman/Alexander Sale) and it has remained one of my firm favourites as it is so well documented in "With the Flag to Pretoria".
Sladdin is unmistakeable with his moustache and he must have loved re-telling the story!

An outstanding DCM. Would be interesting to track down the original despatch about the defence. J
