He was 9th battery in India (1897-98). Then to South Africa with 68th (1899-1902).

Picture taken of 9th in Tirah, 1897.

Bricketts

Thank you for showing your Grandfather's medals and the Tirah group. I think the Indian/Boer War medal combination is hard to beat.

Regards
Brett

Hi

Great picture to go with the group, thanks for posting.

Was he in the 9th Mountain Battery as I know they were entitled to the Sumana 1897 clasp? Sorry the picture is a little faint to make out the writing on the board.

As Brett says always nice to see this combo.

Brian

It reads:

No. 2 Subdivision
9th Field Battery
Royal Artillery
1897

If you liked that shot, you will love the two attached.

One is a a group of Temperance Medal holders (noted by the medal they are wearing) and the other is a full division or regiment (I do not know which or whether). The interesting features of the picture include the guy in the upper right leaning backwards, a guy just left of him with his arms around the neck of the guy below him and the dog peeking out at the upper centre of the group. These pictures were taken in India before the battery left for SA.
