Hello Patrick,

Over the years I have slowly built up a rather large library/archive of info. This has been rolls, attestation papers, defaulters books etc. The easiest way quite frankly is the trial and error method.

The QSA/KSA rolls for all Imperial and Colonial troops are available for download at no charge at the National Archives. You would need to get into the WO 100 series (campaign medal and award rolls)then page down until you see sub series within WO 100 Queens South Africa.Click in the box and it will open up into another sub series and then you can choose what you wish to down load eg Royal Artillery, Town Guards etc.

Play around with it and it will quickly become easier to handle.

Hi Patrick.....

No I have been collecting QSA's for over 40 years but since I am a Canadian I have always looked for Canadian medals.....

Suggest that you may like to look at this thread....

Patrick,

I believe the information Adrian used comes from the medal rolls. These are available to view and take copies of at the National Archives in London. Ancestry have a online and searchable copy of these rolls but these are only accessible via subscription.

Kind regards

Hello David and Patrick,

Click on the last link in my previous reply. It shows the page for the 10th Mountain Battery. All you do is hit the " add to basket" button and follow the instructions. It is all free to down load and this also applies to all the other QSA/KSA rolls.

Thank you both

Adrian, I realised after getting your links etc that I had been going to the right place, but was expecting to be able to view the record, and had completely missed the fact that I had to download the information. Your post was very helpful.

Apart from researching the holders I'm now going to find out more about Mountain Batteries,as I hadn't come across these units before.

Patrick
