I have just won a pair as above.

I have a large number of QSA's to the S.A.C. as they form part of one of my many "themes" and all of them are either 5 clasps (CC/OFS/TVL/SA 1901/1902) or a permutation thereof.

The above group has CC/OFS clasps on the QSA and the normal 2 date clasps on the KSA.

My question is - why did some chaps seem to get only the QSA with 1901 and 1902 whilst, in Wilcock's case, he received the KSA instead?

Regards

Rory

Hi Rory.....

It could be that he served in another unit before going to S.A.C.

Hi Mike

Not according to the rolls which are normally a good indication of any other units he might have served in.

Rory,

Perhaps they had broken service in the SAC ie: joined the SAC then left as time expired at some point and then rejoined, thus not having the necessary continuous service needed to qualify for the KSA.

The regulations say something along the lines that the medal was awarded to all that were serving in SA on the or after the 1st January 1902 and who would have completed 18 months service before the 1st June 1902. Rather confusing but there you are!!

Seen this before with some CP men.

The papers should show this.

Sounds like he was one of the original members in October 1900. Many joined later as the force was built up or left before completing 18 months.

Best

Thanks for your input chaps.

The pair and accompanying paperwork are winging their way to me from Blackpool so all will be revealed in the fulness of time.

I think your prognostication is the most likely Justin. He might well be an early entrant.
