Hello Martin,

I have no idea if the original memorial is on the hill. Perhaps next time on my way down to the Cape I could have a look see.

Regards
Adrian

Thank you for the picture of my Great Uncles name on the medal roll, My Grandfather also served out there with the Worcester's his name was Harry Allen 5958, Would that be on there to?
I have his medals and his QSA medal has 5 clasps, presumably they run from bottom to top in the order they were gained.

Adrian,
Thank you for the info on the graves, I didn't realise that the bodies had been transferred as late as the sixties, I thought the memorial looked more modern so that would explain it.
Do you know if the original memorial cross is still at Worcester Hill.

I'm really pleased to have found this site, thanks again chaps.

Hello again Frank,

That's interesting that he is shown as Lance corporal, his medal is engraved Private.
I have a super picture of him from about that time wearing Lance Corporal stripes with the crossed swords of I believe a PT instructor and the QSA ribbon on his uniform.

Regards, Martin.

Hello Martin,
WO100/184 page 61, which is the QSA roll, gives his rank as Private, page 67 gives his rank as Lance Corporal, this latter is their supplementary roll and the five clasps were issued from it.
Quite normal, nothing unusual here, so don't worry!
Kind regards Frank

Hello Martin,

I'm not sure how long ago you posted this thread, I've just come across it as a recent recruit.

Have you had any luck with your quest to find the QSA to your relative L/Cpl J. Allen?

The reason I ask is that as a Stourbridge bloke I have an interest in the skirmish at Slingersfontein and the Worcestershire Regiment in general.
I have got a couple of casualties from the action in my collection and I am constantly searching for any more to add.
Therefore, I come across medals which I have missed in previous sales etc (all collectors will know of that experience!).
Unfortunately, I have never come across the one to L/Cpl. J. Allen as yet. But that is not to say that it is no longer extant. Once a quality, desirable medal enters a collection they are most likely to be lost for a generation until the owner sells up or departs this life!

I wish you luck with your searches.

Don't give up!

Regards,
Steve.

Hello Steve,
I'm sorry I didn't reply to your post earlier but I've not been on the site for some time so have only just seen it.
I'm still looking for my Great uncles QSA medal in the hope it's still out there, as you say if it's in a collection it could remain undetected for a long time.
He was a Kidderminster man so not far from your neck of the woods, little bits of information about him have come to light now and again so I'm
still hoping his medal will appear one day.

Thank you for your reply,

Martin.
