Although my Great Uncle L/Cpl J Allen only served for one month in the Boer War before being killed in action at Slingersfontein would he have been entitled to a QSA medal, if he was would it have been given to his mother, or would it not be awarded posthumously?

Martin.

Hi Martin,

He would definitely have been entitled to a medal.

3656 J Allen of the Worcester Regiment is buried in Colesberg Cemetary.

Best wishes
David

Martin,

The medal roll for J Allen is WO100/184p98. This shows entitlement to the single clasp QSA with Cape Colony. The roll notes that he was killed in action.

Local papers may record when the medals were issued to the regiment. It may be that next of kin received the medals at these ceremonies?

Kind regards
David
