TOPIC:

Stormberg is in Cape Colony, 10 miles north of Molteno.

On the outbreak of war the town was garrisoned by the British but this force withdrew on 2 Nov 1899 at the advance of the Boers. The Boer forces took the town on 25 Nov 99.

General Gatacre left Molteno on 9 Dec 1899 but lost its way during the night march and came across the Boers in the early morning. A fight ensued until Gatacre withdrew his men. 634 British officers and men were left as prisoners.

Gatacre finally occupied Stormberg on the Boer withdrawal on 6 Mar 1900.
