'With Bethune's Brigade in the Orange River Colony: Beating the Boers at their own game

One of the features of General Bethune's pursuit of De Wet was an ambush which was laid for Brand's commando in the village of Petrusburg. The column left the village at daybreak but a party of 200 of the Price of Wales' Light Horse were left behind. Every horse was picketed and men dressed as women to decoy the Boers into the belief that the town was deserted. Brand's advance guard fell into the trap and gaily rode into the village, where they were easily taken prisoner.
