A town in the Cape Colony, 60 km NE of Uniondale, 140 km north-east of Knysna and 117km SE of Aberdeen.

The town was established in 1862 on the farm The Willows, owned by farmer, William Moore.

During the Boer War, Willowmore fielded a Town Guard, District Mounted Troop and a Railway Contingent.

On 1 June 1901, the outposts of the defences of the town were attacked with partial success by the commando of Commandant G J Scheepers. It was the headquarters of Major General S B Beatson from 15 August until the beginning of September 1901 in his unsuccessful attempts to contain this commando.
