Hammonia during the Boer War was a small town in the Ficksburg district of the Orange Free State,

General Brabant operated in the are in May 1900 and clashed with Commandant Villiers on several occasions. See this post about Sergeant Major Hockin, Border Horse, who was made a prisoner at Hammonia on 28 May 1900: www.angloboerwar.com/forum/apow-h/30621-...nia-28-05-1900#74909

Lt Gen Rundle's 8th infantry division reached Hammonia on 2 June 1900 and for a while, there was a British presence there.

There are many mentions in William Corner's Story of the 34th Middlesex Imperial Yeomanry account: www.angloboerwar.com/books/172-corner-st...company-middlesex-iy
