Over the Christmas break, I went to the Rietvlei Dam Nature reserve, near Irene, Pretoria and there is a ABW sangar there.
Unfortunately, it is overgrown and I didnt have the right sort of shoes to walk around. It is large, aproximately 40 metres square, and of a square construction..... aren't they usually round? It is on a gentle slope but not on the nearby peak.
There is a Rietvlei mentioned in the Battle of Witklip. Also mention is made of Eramus' farm and there is an Erasmus graveyard on the reserve. Can anyone confirm that this is the same?

It is of course also an important encounter mentioned in "the history of the ILH."
The sangars mentioned in the above link are only small.

Iain,

It will be interesting to see if this is indeed the same sangar.

Thank you for the picture. It sounds like you had a great Christmas!

Kind regards
David

Hi David,
it was a good outing, unfortunately as I mentioned, I didnt have stout shoes with me.
The walls are intact and in the picture I posted you can make out the rear wall.
kind regards,
Iain
