Hi everyone,

This is a long shot, but I'll try anyway! I've come across an old memoir, written by someone that lived in my village at the time of the Boer War, and he describes how two men, both of whom had been prisoners of the Boers, returned to the village. He only gives their names as "Mr. Hunt" and "Mr. Frier" (possibly "Friar").

So, my question is - do rolls for prisoners held by the Boers still exist? Is there a way of working out if anyone by the name of "Hunt" or "Frier/Friar" were held captive by the Boers? Hope someone can help, this isn't really my area of expertise!

Best wishes,

Marc

Marc,

That's an intriguing query.

Can I ask which village you are in please?

British prisoners of war are listed in the casualty rolls. These are at ancestry.com and a corrected version at boerwarregister.com.
