I am researching James John Barnes, born in Edmonton Middlesex in 1881.
In 1901 he lived with his parents James and Martha in Greyhound road Tottenham, but by 1911 had been married for a year and lived at 36 Huxley Road, Edmonton.

In WWI he served in the Durham Light infantry, but oral family history - which I have no reason to doubt - says that he also served in the Boer War but unfortuantely has no further information.

The excellent search facilty on this site has found about 30 "J Barnes", and 2 of both J.J. Barnes (one of which had me excited as I missread "Durban Light Infantry" as "Durham Light Infantry" and thought he might have rejoined his old unit in WWI) and James Barnes.

Can anybody refine the above hits to identify if any of them are "my" J Barnes or am I looking at a trip to Kew?.

Very many thanks in advance.

Meurig,
thanks. I do not have access to FindmyPast. But I have tried Ancestry and could not find anything for a J Barnes relating to the Boer War. However, saying that I have spent so much time on there recently researching my local war memorial for WWI that my mind is like a scrambled egg so might well have missed it, so will try again.
