Looking for an information on Albert Lofthouse. Born Skipton Keightly around 1875.

Family story is that he served in the Boer War and later in WW1. I have copies of docs that show an A Lofthouse of the 4th West Yorkshire Regiment was entitled to the Kings South Africa Medal with Clasps and the South Africa Medal. Both docs signed by officers, the latter Lt Col Bennett on 15 July 1901. This A Lofthouse was a private and the Regimental number on both docs is 4457. Cannot establish however if the A is for Albert or not or any other details. Also have a Census doc showing an A Lofthouse at Connaught Military Hospital Hampshire for the British 1901 Census but not sure again if it is him.

Family story has him in the Yorkshire Hussars in WW1 as a military policeman. Again Award Rolls show an A Lofthouse in the Yorkshire Hussars as a MMP Private Reg # 2722 P/4773. Unfortunately no records show his full name or any other details eg DOB or Address that would help ID him as our relative. Doing this as part of the Lofthouse/Emmott family history. Any help greatly appreciated.

Lofty,

There are Army Service records for 4457 A Lofthouse in the National Archives and in FMP but I don't think this is your man. The index entry says:

LOFTHOUSE, ALFRED. Born 1881, Leeds, Yorkshire

There are only a few A Lofthouses on the medal rolls:

A Lofthouse - 4th West Yorkshire
A Lofthouse - 1st Durham Light Infantry. 6370. KSA forfeited. This is LOFTHOUSE, ALBERT. Born 1879, Borrowbridge, Yorkshire, England
A Lofthouse - 1st Highland Light Infantry. 4462. This is Lofthouse, Arthur. Born 1871, Burley, Yorkshire

The papers for the second A Lofthouse will give you more details on the man and might confirm if he was injured.

Can I suggest you have a look at the index on FMP as several Alfred Lofthouses are listed:

Best wishes
David

Thanks for the reply David. Very much appreciated. Always thought it would be long shot it was his Boer War record. My Albert was definitely born 1876 and not in Borrowbridge. Bit of pity if the WW1 medal index record is not him. It fitted perfectly. Unfortunately if the records are not online it is a bit hard to do anything from Western Australia.
