I posted here quite a while ago looking for info about my great-grandfather Louis Valentin/Valentine de Villiers and I am still looking.

I've recently come across a newspaper article from the Boston Globe in 1902 which talks about a Boer soldier, Captain Louis de Villiers. I would like to figure out if this Louis de Villiers is my ggf. Below is an extract from the article.

“I was born under the British flag in South Africa,” said Capt de Villiers, “although that would not have been my choice. I was educated, first in France at the l’Ecole d’Application Pratique de Sammar, the best-equipped cavalry school in the world. I received the artillery degree in Germany.

“When the war broke out I start with a commando in Cape Colony, and fought there and later in the Free State. The real fighting started in Cape Colony after the ‘annexation’ of the Transvaal, when De Wet came to enter the colony in September 1900. I was fighting with Kritzinger, Malan and Hartzog until I was wounded and captured at Hanover by Brabant’s horse in February, 1901. I was paroled under an assumed name and escaped from Cape Town on a British transport as a Canadian in company with 700 men and 60 officers.”

Capt de Villiers said that his father, Gen de Villiers, was killed and his mother died from pneumonia after being driven from her house by the British, a sister was shot in Cape Colony while fighting for the Boers, and another sister died in a concentration camp, while he had also lost a brother, three cousins and two uncles since the war began.

Does anyone happen to know anything else about this Capt. de Villiers who was in North America or point me in the direction of where I could find more information on him using the info from the article? Can anyone tell me the first name of Gen. de Villiers who was killed during the war before 1902?
