FLUSK - This is my first post. Greetings to all. My great grandfather was John Flusk and according to an article in the Diamond Field Advertiser dated 20March 1901 he died of a bayonet wound in his left side in the Bloemfontein Hospital. He sustained this injury fighting for the Boers when the British entered Bloemfontein. The article also states he was German which is contrary to word of mouth which says he was Irish. There is a possibility that the name could have been Flusch. Any help as to where I could look for evidence of this report would be appreciated. The plot thickens as I get into the saga of my grandfather but that is for a later date.

Hello

The War Museum of the Boer Republics in Bloemfontein have an online database of "Burger Deaths" . I could not find him listed, but it may be a spelling issue.

May be worth contacting them.

He died in 1901 - the British captured Bloemfontein in 1900, not sure if this a typo or perhaps he was wounded in a battle outside of Bloemfontein in 1901 and bought into hospital.
