Looking for information on a family story that the ship my grandfather was on arrived as the war ended and they never unloaded just returned to England. Sorry no ship name came with the story. He was suppose to be part of the Imperial Yeomanry. Any one heard of this story?

Hello

A number of IY arrived just as the war ended, some afterwards. As far as I know they were required to serve their term of 1 year - they were employed in policing activities and helping to resettle Boers on their destroyed farms.

Some men may have been able to buy an early discharge and return directly to England.

If he joined the IY then his name should be on the medal rolls.

What was your grandfather's name?
