Hi

I'm looking for more information about a possible court martial involving Philip Joseph Robinson. I found his attestation papers for the Kimberley Horse on this site and as a result also found that he was initially in the Cape Police and also with the Special Cape Police Contingent. I managed to get hold of his Cape Police candidate papers (thanks to Adrian Ellard) and these, along with the medal rolls I've seen, show he was discharged for misconduct probably fairly soon after joining the CP - there's a note written at the top of his papers in red suggesting there was a court case: "Regina vs Robinson: contrary(?) sec 35, Act 12 of 1882". So I'm looking for information about this case if any exists.

His Kimberley Horse papers also say he was in the ILH, which I take to be the Imperial Light Horse, but I can find no record of his service there. Can anyone help with this?

Many thanks,
Ric

Hi Ric,

I have had a look at the KH nominal roll on this site and see the note that he also served in the ILH. There is a pencil annotation above this which I believe says 'no trace'. I have also checked the ILH rolls and cannot locate him which would seem to confirm he did not serve in the ILH.

His service in the KH was brief, 9 May 02 to 30 Jun 02 (disbandment).

The rolls do confirm his service in the KH, CP District 2 and Cape Special Police.

Kind regards
David

Thank you for looking.
I hadn't noticed the pencil note before, so that seems to clear that up but I looked into the Cape Special Police briefly and it looks like they were attached to various columns throughout the war which made me wonder if he could have been attached to the ILH for so long he "forgot" he wasn't actually part of it!

Anyway, thank you again.
