My great great uncle Joseph Morton served with the Railway Pioneer Regiment during the Boer War. His number was 284. On his discharge papers it states that he returned to Cumberland in England. There is no record of him doing so. In the 1911 English Census his wife is listed as a widow. I now wonder whether he remained in South Africa until his death. If anyone can help me, or give some advice, I would be really grateful.

I just checked the casualty list that I have and I am sorry to say that there is no J. Morton listed as a casualty..... That is that served in the R.P.R.......
