Arthur Sloggett was in charge of the IYH at Deelfontein. He was known as 'Naughty ARthur' for his reputation with the nurses. My great uncle, Dr. J.B. Christopherson also worked at this hospital. He may have left under a cloud or this may have been a spiteful remark made by someone later that made me wonder what happened. There is nothing official. I would like to find Sloggett's private papers. I looked for about 8 years before giving up and my book: Dr. Christopherson and the Cure for Bilharzia went to press in 2009. I'd still like to know why JBC only stayed about 8 months.
Is anyone else interested in this hospital? I have several photos.

Photos of the hospital would be a valuable addition to this forum, so I hope you will go ahead and post them.

Also, anecdotes about 'Naughty Arthur' and other Deelfontein stories would be welcomed by those of us who have not seen your book.

Regards
Brett

When I get time I will scan some pix of the IYH and post. This is a busy time of year:)
THe publisher priced the book so expensively that I never ask anyone to buy it. I do ask that any kindly person might ask their library to acquire a copy. It's classed as academic consequentially the price! see: Dr. Christopherson and the Cure for Bilharzia.
I have a good many pictures and a number here I had no room for. There were 30,000 people at the camp at its height and I almost never find anyone interested. Seems strange.

I am the proud possessor of a plate, used as a gift, with the Prince of Wales' 3 feathers and IYH on it. Also, as it was presented as an award, it has the name of the winner DR. J.B. Christopherson and the name of the horse painted on. The Widow!!
I should add that JBC's bilharzia work was done in Sudan.
