Hi all..
Seeking information about Private W George, of the East Kent regiment, regimental number possibly 1928.
He was awarded the South Africa Medal, with bars for Cape Colony & Orange Free State.
Any information about any aspect of his life/origins/family, gratefully received. thanks E

Hi, I can find 1928 Pte. W George 2nd Bn East Kent Regiment on the QSA roll with CC & OFS clasps and a remark saying invalided home 19 July 1900. I can find nothing else on him.

I don't know if this is any use to you. In your introduction post you mentioned that you were looking for a George-Sellen connection. A Frederick Sellen married a Margaret Lilian George (born Islington 1903) in Hackney, London in 1923. Her father's name was Herbert William George.

Cheers,

Mark

Thanks for that. - Funnily enough someone else from another line of enquiry pointed me to that marriage, but as yet I cannot see a connection - Early days though.

Hi everyone
Some updated information -
There were families by the name of 'George' in Halesworth, Suffolk, which is not a million miles away from the area where my husbands fathers family originate from - they are 'Johnson'.
Maybe I have been barking up the wrong tree, looking for the connection with the Kent side of the family? and maybe the connection lies in Suffolk - though why someone from Suffolk would be serving with the East Kent regiment is anyones guess. Has anyone else come across something like this?
Have been unable to locate any details of his enlisting/enrolling in the regiment - which would hopefully confirm from whereabouts he came but will keep looking.

UPDATE.
Private W George enlisted in October 1885, age 24yrs and 6mnth (born, therefore in 1861) His 'home' was Sheldwich, Kent, and his parents were Henry & Frances.
He was either William or Walter. He enlisted as William, but census records show that the son born in 1861 to Henry and Frances was called Walter, though there was an older son named William.
Would still be very interested to hear from descendants of W George, to try and confirm whether he was William or Walter and to try and see why/how he is connected to our family. Items discovered in a box of family 'stuff' suggest that he is connected somehow! ??
