Help :(

Upon locating the entry for my G. Grandfather, Pte. W.A. Barnsley being awarded the CGHGSM(1) Basutoland Gun War of 1880-1881 Medal, I made reference to the location of his enrolment papers for the First City under the Grahamstown Volunteers ..... and placed my request with "The National Archives (UK) in boxes 88-90 in Series WO 126.

The results were as follows !!!

"Quote"

WO 126/88 is attestations Kitcheners Horse.

WO 126/89 and 90 is attestations Marshall's Horse and Uitenhage Volunteer Rifles.

Nothing in WO126 for Grahamstown Volunteers, which is where it would be if our National Archives had custody, search fee 10 lbs. paid.

Kind regards, Jonathan

Please provide further assistance on this query, how do I obtain copies of his enlistment papers ???

Thank-you

Hello Len

Not sure what led you to WO126 as they only cover the Second Anglo-Boer War.

I have not heard of a source of service papers for volunteer units of earlier conflicts.
