Welcome Nick!

According to the KSA roll, Dvr F Deacon served in the 20th Battery RFA. A note says he transferred to the Army Reserve, 14 Jul 1902.

I can find the KSA entry but not the QSA entry which is strange. The 20th mostly received CC OFS & Tr clasps.

What do you have on the medals, Nick?

David

David

On his medals he has the following bars on the kings medal south Africa 1901 and 1902 on the Queens medal Transvaal, Orange free state and Cape Colony.

He was born in Swindon, I haven't the date with me, but when my wife was doing the family tree he had disappeared for a few years leaving his wife behind, when I was given these medals we found out where he had gone off to !!!

Is there any details on his battery any where, was it recruited from the wiltshire area?

Thanks
Nick

Nick,

Its nice to have that gap in his history filled in!

There are not many details on the 20th battery and I am not sure if the RFA was tied to any particular area of the country.

I would urge you to acquire his service papers. They are likely to consist of 4 pages of service and biographical details, including addresses, next of kin, education, where he served and when ..

They can be downloaded (for a fee) from FindMyPast, copied for £2 at the National Archives or you can employ a researcher to copy them for you.

Good luck!
