Hello All, I have joined this site to discover more about the Boer War and particularly about my Great Great Uncles involvement. I have a copy of a letter he wrote to my great grandmother on 14 th Decemeber 1901 from Elandsfontiene Johanisburg. I am keen to know more detail can anyone help.thanks Lauchie

Good morning, welcome here,
Your post is a little vague, so the best thing to do is add as much detail that you can, starting with your ancestors basic details before moving on to the letter and in particular, it's content.

Hi Frank and thank you for your prompt reply. William Allem was the 3rd son of Joseph and Mary Ann Allen bon in Martley Hallowa Worcester in 1878. I have records of hin in the 1881 and 1891 census but nothing more than the letter i have.

Okay, I take it you believe he served in South Africa during the war, if so, could you explain why and also the content of the letter you mention?

Well a William Allen died in South Africa in 1901. If he did not return from South Africa, it may be him. This record is available from the SA National Archives search NAAIRS.

I have tried to search the NAAIRS database but sadly it just shows me 0 documents. Can you advise me of another way to find the document you referred to please.
