I have found a Joseph Johnstone aged 23, of the 15th Royal Field Artillery, who is remembered in Cockermouth cemetery.
The only thing I have is that he died at Netley hospital 6th February 1902 and is buried in Netley.
So you know what is coming could he have served in the Boer war and came home and sadly died either from wounds or illness.

I know I may be barking up the wrong tree but if you don't ask you may never know.

Regards Mike.

Mike
My RA roll does not show "15 RFA" (I assume this to be 15th Battery, RFA) as serving in South Africa between 1899-1902. Of course, he could have served with another battery/column. I had a look in the Palmer roll under "J.Johnstone"/"J.Johnston" and no one appears to fit. My experience is that he would not appear in the casualty rolls if he was invalided from SA due to disease.
Good luck with your research,
IL.

As you have this mans service number, clearly, had he actually served in South Africa you would expect to find him in WO100, that would certainly be where I would look first.
