Good Day All

I know very little about my grandpa, Peter Nice.
He and his brother are from what I've heard, to have been Irish. Both went to South Africa and were involved in the Boer War
of 1899 - 1902.
Grandpa's brother was to have fallen somewhere in the Natal, maybe near Colenso. Grandpa himself was to have been taken prisoner
and was to have been ordered to drive trains between Johannesburg and Germiston.
I found a Peter Nice somewhere on a site and really wonder if it could be him. If I remember correctly I found his name in a search on 'Kitchener's Horse' Can anything beyond his Troop number etc. be found out?
The Peter Nice I'm looking for later went on to marry a Huibrecht Benade. He later was to have died whilst at work on the railways.
Any tips on how I can further research this would be much appreciated.

There certainly was a Peter Nice who did serve in Kitchener's Horse, interestingly, he appears to have joined the Imperial Military Railways on the 1st of August 1900, the first thing to do would be to find out if he is related to you, I would start with a look at surviving rank and file papers for Kitchener's Horse in WO126/83-88 at Kew if I were you.

Hi and thanks so much for your reply.
Your recommendation sounds great but I have no idea on how or where to go and look.

You simply go to the NA at Kew and order the box, then sit in their reading room and take a look through it's contents, in the hope that what you are looking for has survived and is present.
You will need to obtain a reader ticket beforehand, in order to do so.

No problem, you merely have a researcher do it for you.
