I am trying to find information on my Grandfather Henry John Goodey who I know served in the Boer war but I get nothing when entering his name . We have a cap badge for the Royal Irish Rifles and also a photograph attached with Shoulder flash T H which I took to be Tower Hamlets as he lived in London . Any suggestions would be gratefully accepted . We also had a scarf or handkerchief with Bloemfontein embroidered which would suggest he was there at some time

Hi pgoodey, there is 7139 Cpl HJ Goodey, Volunteer Service Company 2nd Battalion Royal Irish Rifles listed on the Queen's South Africa Medal (QSA) rolls as QSA with Cape Colony & Orange Free State clasps (so this man was in the OFS and likely was at Bloemfontein) and later received the South Africa 1901 clasp. It notes he was sent home for discharge on 30 April 1901. This is the only man that I can find in the Irish Rifles with those initials and surname.

Cheers,

Mark
