Service papers on FindmyPast show this to be 2016 George Cooper - born Brighton, East Sussex.

His connection with Lancashire? In 1892 he married Jane Bebbington in St Paul's, Preston, Lancs.

His papers state he was shot in the chest at Doornkop - the correct name for the VC action that cleared the road to Johannesburg.

This is a miniature of the statue atop the Royal Sussex Memorial in Brighton that according to the National Army Museum is a bugler sounding the charge at Doornkop. A number of these were made - I have one
