Did George Cooper, or C. Cooper, survive? I'm not aware of an ABW memorial in Fleetwood, other than Rossall School's, so am having to go through the local 'papers for information.

Berenice
2016 Pte C.Cooper of 1st Royal Sussex was severely wounded 29051900 at Florida - according to the Palmer roll. Can't see any 2015 G. Cooper. Nor can I find such in SAFF.
Regards
IL.

Service papers on FindmyPast show this to be 2016 George Cooper - born Brighton, East Sussex.

His connection with Lancashire? In 1892 he married Jane Bebbington in St Paul's, Preston, Lancs.

His papers state he was shot in the chest at Doornkop - the correct name for the VC action that cleared the road to Johannesburg.

This is a miniature of the statue atop the Royal Sussex Memorial in Brighton that according to the National Army Museum is a bugler sounding the charge at Doornkop. A number of these were made - I have one :)
