Hello:

My name is Daniel A Mullen, and I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia, Pa., USA. I'm a new member. My grandfather fought in the Boer War and wrote a book titled "Mafeking Memories". His name was Frederick Saunders. At the age of 16 he joined the Bechuanaland Rifles and was engaged at the siege of Mafeking. I lived with my grandfather in East Lansdowne, Pa from 1953 till his death in 1964.

Hello Daniel and welcome.

I can see 91 Pte F Saunders on the Bechuanaland Rifles roll, WO100/236p33 with clasps DoM and Tr, issue 5 Feb 1902.

It must be great to have a relative who was in Mafeking at the time.

I have seen the book but never read it. Must add it to the list!

Best wishes
David

Daniel
Colin Walker's" Mafeking Siege Register" contains a wad of info on "91 Pte/Bugler Frederick Saunders". He served with B Troop of the Bech. Rifles and stated was a 2nd Lt. in the original cadets before BP arrived. If you don't have this info, pm me.
Regards
IL.
