i'm busy doing my husbands family tree. pieter willem adriaan claassens, he was a prisoner of war on the s.s. aurania. he died on route to Bombay. why were they taken him to Bombay as i can not find a list of the prisoners on the s.s. aurania. they say his cause of death is not known i just find that strange when he spent 4 days in hospital. so what happened? I also see that his names on the death certificate that was done by the ships captin is different to the typed death notice. the written one says pieter willen adrian klassen but the typed one says pieter willem adriaan claassens so which one is correct??? Any help???

Hi
The info you give tallies with that shown in "Die Bannelinge" : I assume that was your source. Claassen is correct
He was en route via Bombay to one of the Prisoner of War camps in India.
The "klassen" spelling is reflected in the printed PoW Registers. These were compiled from forms filled in by British officials and names and surnames were often mis-spelt
