I'm not sure if anyone can help me here but I'm trying to find any information I can on my grandfather Leslie Melvin Larsen. His certificate of transfer discharge number is c1584 & his South African Constabulary paper says he was a 2nd class Attested at Heidelberg on the 16th May 1901.

On his South African medal they have his last name spelled as Larson.

I tried searching on the main site but keep getting 0 results found.

Anyone that can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Please keep in mind I'm 80 years old & computer challenged to say the least.

Thanks in advance,

Melvin Larsen
Halifax, NS

Welcome Melvin,

It is great to see a certificate of discharge from the SAC. You don't see these very often.

The supplementary roll (WO100/272p315) lists 1584 2nd Class Trooper L M Larsen as receiving the South Africa 1901 and South Africa 1902 clasps. A note says the clasps or medal were returned to the Mint on 10 Oct 1908 which often happened when the recipient could not be traced. He must have subsequently applied for his medal.

His C Division SAC QSA is list on WO100/272p198 as being entitled to the CC, OFS and Tr clasps.

I good person to contact for SAC research is Audrey Portman ([email protected]).

Good luck!
