My great grandfather Sidney Felix Freckelton served in the Boer War. Trooper 39701 in the Scottish Horse. I believe he received the Queens South Africa medal and 3 clasps. He arrived in Africa on 20.8.1901 aboard the Britannic and began service on 20.09.1901. He also served in the NSW Naval contingent to China Boxer Rebellion arriving in China on 8.8.1900, Bugler RM 163 . I would appreciate any information on my grandfather and his medal/clasps and service. Thank you

39701 Trooper Sidney Felix Freckelton 2nd Scottish Horse was entitled to a QSA with clasps Transvaal, South Africa 1901 & South Africa 1902. The medal roll states "QSA from roll of N.S.W. Naval Contingent. Discharged Cape Town 30/4/02."

Sidney Felix Freckelton, age 19, Presbyterian, single and a bootmaker, came from Alexandria, New South Wales: served in 2SH as Trooper (number shown as 39701, note), sailed on the "Britannic". Served 24/9/01 to 30/4/02 and - as David said - received clasps Transvaal, SA01 and SA02. Conduct "exemplary". You already have info on his China service.
