Have just received a newspaper report describing this mans involvement in the ABW. It states that he was in S Africa prior to the outbreak of war and that he joined the DLI in the early part of 1898. The article also says that when the DLI were disbanded in October 1900 he "at once re-entered the Police Force." Is there any accessible record of Natal Police prior to the outbreak of war?

Thanks for any assistance.

There is no record of an E B Phillips joining the Natal Police in 1900 or at any other time. It may have been another police force, perhaps the South African Constabulary?

Thank you so much for this. Received the original notification on a mobile device whilst out, hence the very brief acknowledgment. May I ask? Do you know the context of the image?
Once again thank you for this

Here is the complete photograph, taken sometime during 1900 (probably after the Relief of Ladysmith).

Thank you so much. I will now go back to his letters home and see if any of his comrades are mentioned.
