I have been unable to find any reference to my Grandfather, John Cameron Kerr, in these lists. I have attached his 'discharge' paper. He was a private in the ILH with the number 639? Does this mean anything? I hope that someone can assist me?

Morning Martin and welcome to the forum.

I have searched fir him in the medal rolls and nominal roll and not yet located him.

Can you let us know the information from his discharge papers please?

Marin,

Thank you for those.

I have found him now.

He first served with the Western Province Mounted Rifles as 497 Trooper where he earned the CC clasp. WO100/278p181 refers.

He joined the 1st ILH on 31 Dec 1901 in Cape Town as 3014 Tpr John Kerr, earning the OFS and Transvaal clasps (WO100/250p118 refers). The Supplementary roll (WO100/250p151) lists the SA01 and SA02 clasps and his revised regimental number 39952. That confirms the 5 clasps identified on his 1915 discharge papers. He was discharged from the ILH on 20 Jun 1902.

There is information on the ILH and WPMR

Kind regards
David
