Of all the Trent's who fought during the Anglo Boer War I have managed to confirm that all are my family in South Africa barring two.
1)
Trent A
No: 4566
Rank: Private
Notes: QSA (5) Source; QSA Medal Rolls
Unit: 1st (Royal) Dragoons.
2)
Trent James Dudley
No: 4578
Rank: Trooper
Notes: Nominal roll in WO127
Unit: SAMIF

The 1st one most likely is not related (maybe way back) but the 2nd one could possibly be. If anyone can assist with more information with them. It would be much appreciated.

Bean,

For (1) I looked at whether his service papers survived (via FindMyPast) and, unfortunately, they have not.

For South African soldiers, there is a nominal roll for the SAMIF which gives only the briefest of details

I too looked at Findmypasvarious too and found nothing.
With regards to 2), photo is a bit blurry so couldn't quite read the last bit of red writing. Just to clarify though, does this mean he was a South African soldier, born in South Africa not England?.
If so this may be the 3rd brother of Sidney Samuel I'm looking for. That being said according to findmypast records James died in India before the war and the 3rd brother's name was John, possibly John James, as that combination is carried down through various branches of our family.

In the case of James Trent, it might well be worth a manual search in WO126/139-140 at Kew, any surviving paper might well give next of kin as well as an all important address.
