YEOMAN CHARGED WITH THEFT.
At the South-Western Police Court, London, on Saturday, Frederick Wheeler, 19, a seaman, of Wandsworth, was charged with stealing two glass tumblers from the bar of the French Horn public-house, Wandsworth. Accused, who had served in the Imperial Yeomanry, wore the South African ribbon, and, singularly enough, the police-constable - Police-constable 653 V - who took him into custody was similarly adorned with the same honourable badge. It appeared that the defendant was the worse for drink, and was requested to leave the house. He did so, and after his departure the tumblers were missed. The policeman found the glasses in his pocket. Wheeler protested that he had no knowledge of their being there, but as the landlord stated that on the same occasion a box of cigars was also missed, the magistrate remanded the accused for inquiries.
