. - In the list of wounded in General Buller's forces at the relief of Ladysmith appears the name of Private A. Mercer, of the 1st Durham Light Infantry, whose mother resides at Bristol Terrace here. Private Burns, who was in the Highland Brigade at Magersfontein, was reported killed in that engagement. Official information to this effect was sent by the War Office to Burns' parents who reside in Halliburton Place, and they were also informed that his belongings would be forwarded to them in due course. On Saturday morning the parents received a letter from their son, acquainting them that he was in hospital suffering from two wounds, but that he was making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Needless to say, the parents were overjoyed to learn that the son whom they believed to be dead was really alive.
