Quintin Dick Neill was a well-known footballer from Glasgow; his first club being the amateur Queen's Park F.C., making his debut in 1886. Two years later, he became the first Queen's Park player to turn professional, when he signed for Lincoln City. He went on to make 119 appearances for Lincoln, until leaving the club in 1895, and moving to South Africa to start a business. After being a volunteer in the Durban Light Infantry, he joined Driscoll's Scouts on the outbreak of war.
There are differing causes of death given for him - dying of injuries, and dying of fever, in a Durban hospital.
