The Ipswich Journal (4.8.1900) reported: -
"Mrs. Podd, of 513, Bramford Road, Ipswich, has received intimation from Johannesburg that her husband, a Reservist of the Suffolk Regiment, died of fever on June 21st. He leaves two children."
The same newspaper (25.8.1900) included a snippet about an Ipswich bowls match, one of the teams being the Rosary Club, with a H. Podd being one of that club's players. A G***** search shows that the Rosary Conservative Club still exists, located at 172 Bramford Road, Ipswich. Could H. Podd, the bowls player, have been related to Harry Podd (his father? uncle?), and could Harry Podd himself have been a member of the club? You could try contacting the club to ask if they still have any records of club members from that period.

* The Rosary Club was also referred to as 'Bramford Road Conservative Club' (1.9.1900).
Do you have any idea of Harry Podd's age? There was a Harry Podd who appeared as a witness in a court case, on 12.2.1894. On his giving evidence he was named as Henry Podd (13).Seems a bit unlikely to have been your Harry Podd, as the one in the court case would have been aged approximately 19 in June 1900. Married, with two children, at nineteen?
