Trooper Wedderburn appears to have had a short and rather unfortunate time in South Africa, WO127 confirms his name as Frederick Lewis S Wedderburn and that he joined Kitchener's Horse on the 10th of February 1900 and was discharged on the 19th of the following month, although, WO100/256 gives the date of the 17th of May, as well as confirming his medal and clasps, so perhaps a look through WO126/83-88 might yield his original paper and more information.

Thank you, Ian and Frank. I had a look online, but couldn't find any other references to volunteers from Buenos Aires. Frederick was buried at Largo Cemetery, not far from the Fife coast.

Well, I would think he may have simply got together with a handful of like minded men and simply got on the boat, whilst they may have referred to themselves as a "Corps" or simply been referred to by their organiser as that, but, you could not join the SAMIF in South America, his particular regiment, was, for official purpose, raised in South Africa , in Cape Town upon the 20th of January 1900 and disbanded there on New Years Eve 1901, it's founder members, famously took part in the relief of Kimberley.

In haste, both these names rang bells. Scrymgeour-Wedderburn is in the Muster Roll of Angus if I remember rightly and Henry Somervell did indeed gather together a group in Buenos Aires to go and fight in South Africa. There is a photo of him in one of the illustrated weeklies, perhaps Black and White Budget.

A cursory internet search came up with this, which has more on the story: books.google.be/books?id=vWVFBTDVoEAC&pg...enos%20Aires&f=false
