Hello,
My Grandmothers brother served during the Boer War in the 140th Company, 31st battalion the Fincastle Lancers Number 38711.
He was born 1878 in Glasgow and died in 1948 in Auckland NZ. Up to last December all I knew about him was that he was at sea as a bosun from 1905 until 1909 when he jumped ship in Christchurch and `Joined the Fire Brigade`. As far as I know he stayed in NZ (Dunedin and Auckland) for the remainder of his life. He married and divorced in NZ and I have just fond that he had 2 Daughters.
I understood that the Boer War records were kept in Wellington NZ but when I contacted them they said they did not have them.
Can anyone please help me to locate them.
Attached is the Plaque on his grave.
