I am doing family research on the Neelmeyer family which originates from Rintln in Germany. I came across Johannes Neelmeyer Nr. 171 in thee Cape Mounted Police attestation papers, September 1895 and also Johannes Elisa Neilmayer, 193 Pvt.QSA defense of Kimberly.

Is this the same person? Where did he come from and where did he go? Can anyone help me with information or where should I look?

Jantoni,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for your post.

These two names, both from the Cape Police, are very similar and it is not uncommon for names like this to be spelled differently on different documents. They could be the same person but I think they be two separate people.

I don't know if the attestation papers have someone else with the number 193?

The records for the Cape Police are held in South Africa so you are best to contact Adrian. It was he who produced the attestation roll. His email address is on that page www.angloboerwar.com/unit-information/so...-cape-mounted-police

Good luck

Hi,

I can confirm that they are the one and same. In the Cape Archives there are 9 pages on Johannes Elisa Neelmeyer. The pages are in a very poor state but readable just.

Neelmeyer attested into the CP on the 10th September 1895 in Kimberley. He was 35 years old at the time and it appears that he was an architect by profession. He was single and the place of birth looks like Apeldoorn in Holland???

He had previous service in the Bechuanaland Border Police.

He was granted 1 months pay in lieu of notice in May 1900 and discharged on the 5th of May 1900 "Services being Suspended"

There are also a few hand written letters in the file as well.

Regards

Adrian
