I am trying to find more info on my great grandfather and any info regarding his activities or movements during the war.

About a year ago i recieved a box of coins and keepsakes from my gran (87) and only now realised that it contained an ABO war medal. It was issued to Burger CJJ Potgieter.

Cornelius Jakobus Johannes Potgieter was presumably born in the Freestate possibly Ladybrand around 1880.

On the medals list there are a number of CJ Potgieters who recieved medals, but I am not sure which ones might be the one I am looking for.

Could anyone possibly give me some pointers on where to start looking for information? Family history was never high on the list of conversation and unfortunately my gran's memory is not good anymore.

Thanks

Hello PhillipF

Email [email protected]

He should be able to get the medal application form "Vorm B". This usually gives basic details as to which battles he fought in, commandos served in and whether he was POW or not.

Hello PhiilpF

Lots of info on Geni too:
www.geni.com/projects/Anglo-Boere-Oorlog...isoners-Of-War/12770

You will need to follow the pages.

Also a HUGE Potgieter family tree on Geni and many people to ask questions from too.
Not sure if it helps...

Kind regards
