LADYSMITH HERO'S SUICIDE AT CRUMLIN
At Crumlin on Thursday Mr. M. Roberts-Jones inquired into the circumstances of the death of John Courtney, 40 years of age, who committed suicide by cutting his throat with a razor. Deceased was a single man and an Army pensioner. According to his discharge papers he had served nineteen years and 155 days in the 2nd Battalion Dorset Regiment, and had two medals, one with five bars, viz., Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Tugela Heights, and the relief of Ladysmith. The other medal was for South Africa in 1901 and 1902. His discharge character was marked "Very good."
The jury's verdict was "Suicide while temporarily insane."

Crumlin could be the town in Northern Ireland, or the suburb in Dublin. Either way, John Courtney's death doesn't show up in the Irish Civil Records for 1905
