Can anyone identify the incident where he gained the D.C.M., please?
_______________

....The funeral took place to the New Cemetery, Anstruther, to-day of Sergeant A. Brown, D.C.M., who, until his retiral on January 30, 1937, was town officer at Anstruther for twelve years.
....Since his retiral Sergeant Brown had lived at Jubilee Cottage, Clephanton, a mile from Anstruther. He was 66 years old.
....Sergeant Brown had an excellent army record. Enlisting at Dundee on August 10, 1892, in the Royal Field Artillery, he went through several campaigns on the North-West Frontier of India and in South Africa. It was in the latter country during the South African War that he was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry. Finding a gun jammed, and the officers and most of the men killed or wounded, Sergeant Brown got the gun into action again under severe fire and continued to man it for some time.
....Sergeant Brown left the army in 1920, after 27½ years service, and had lived in East Fife ever since.

Dundee Courier, Saturday 19th March & Monday 21st March 1938.

Can anyone find out what battery of RFA he was with? The description of the incident sounds like he might just possibly have been with the 14th Btty or 66th Btty under Col Long at Colenso?
The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.

Thank you, Henk, and thank goodness we've had such a large number of local newspapers in the past.
