Hi, I'm doing research into my 2nd great grandfather - Mr Schumann. I have this picture but don't know if it's taken in the anglo/Boer war or WW1. Would anyone know? Many Thanks.

Thank you. I've been battling to upload the picture. The quality might not be good enough to glean anything meaningful.

I make no claims on being able to ID items of ABW badges and accoutrements. However, the rifle illustrated is a Short Lee Enfield; introduced for both cavalry and infantry shortly after the conclusion of the Boer War, The pattern of bandoliers worn by horse and man confirm that - if such is needed.

IL..

Do you know Mr Schumanns first name? Or any other details that may help to find out which regiment he served in. His insignia, I believe, pertains to that of a staff sergeant. As IL has mentioned reference the Lee Enfield. The photograph was probably taken after the Anglo Boer War. However, if you can provide more details on the man, it may be possible to find out which regiment he served and a possible timeframe post Boer war.
Regards
Dave.
