Edward Lake Geere (sometimes Lake-Geere) (1875-1940) served in South Africa throughout the 2nd Boer War, being awarded the Queen's Medal with 6 clasps and the King's Medal with 2 clasps. Following his return, on 15 November 1902 he was commissioned into the 4th (Militia) Border Regiment as a 2nd Lt. Can anyone please tell me which unit he served in in South Africa?

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike

He served in 1st & 2nd Kitcheners Fighting Scouts as per his medal rolls. I believe he may have also served with the Natal Mounted Rifles and Prince of Wales Light Horse.

Hi Mike,

I presume you are aware of the attention Edward Lake Geere has received in 10 Public Family Trees on Ancestry. They include a photograph in uniform which shows him wearing 8 or 9 medals - hard to say exactly owing to the quality of the photograph which originates from somebody called Vera Geere. He lived until 1940 and over the years he received several mentions in the newspapers but none relate to his service in South Africa.

Regards, David

No, I didn't know of the family trees, David, but I have seen his long obit in 1940. Thanks for the heads up.
