Is there someone special you are looking for? In total, there were 5207 Pow's recorded in the registers sent to St Helena.

Hi Elmarie

Yes, I'm looking for Jacobus Johannes Del la Porte (Delport) Not sure when and why the surname changed. Apparently he was prisoner 897. Would love to get more info about him.

Jacques De La Porte, the founder of this clan, was a Huguenot who became a farmer (Boer) in the Cape after fleeing Catholic persecution in 1698. The name would have changed to Delport as French was forgotten and Dutch / Afrikaans spoken.

The past is not dead. In fact, it's not even past.
