I am hoping to have some help finding out a bit more about Samuel Dickens who served in the Cradock Town Guard (29.12.1900 - 13.01.1902) according to the supplementary roll. I am not sure if there are attestation papers for him and how I go about finding those? It looks like he was a captain but may have been demoted to private?

Thank you, I have seen this record. Would these be the only military records for him or would there be other documentation that might be able to let me know his place and actual date of birth ( I only have the year). I am also trying to confirm the names of his parents. (Long shot I know).

I suggest you try the free to view Familysearch.org website. By typing in his names and approximate dob and selecting South Africa you might find a hit which would include the details you desire.
